University of Tartu

Who are we?

Institute of Education is part of the University of Tartu. The Institute is responsible for educational research and teacher initial as well as teacher in-service training.

The Centre for teacher in-service training and teachers’ induction year operates within the Institute of Education and organizes the development and running of courses both for novice teachers and the experienced ones who would like to improve their teaching, or take part in training for a new or additional subject, target group, etc. The Centre is situated at Salme st 1a, Tartu 50103, Estonia.

What do we do?

Every year 3500 Estonian teachers attend 100 in-service courses developed and arranged by the Centre for induction year and teacher in-service training (http://www.ht.ut.ee/et/taienduskoolitus)

There is a Network of Innovation Schools established by the umbrella unit for teacher education and research, Pedagogicum of the University of Tartu. The network involves 56 schools of different type and size (from 60 to 3500 students), spread all over Estonia.

The general goal of this network is to bridge the gap between theory and practice in a community where the schools and university are equal members and benefit from each other’s strengths.
